Ojas Art Gallery presents Vrikshadootam: A message from the trees by artist Abhishek Singh

This July, Delhi will come alive with the interactive narrative art that Abhishek Singh is famous for. In 2014 too, Ojas Art Gallery partnered with this New York-based master story-teller and graphic novelist on “Shiva in Varanasi†a public art project wherein the paintings were painted live and were displayed on boats in the Ganges for people to experience and observe from all walks of the life. The six day long exhibition travelled along the sacred ghats of Varanasi – Assi Ghat, Tulsi Ghat, and Dashashvamedh Ghat and touched thousands of people, making them a part of the exhibit rather than just spectators. This interactive live painting concept is now brought to Delhi for the first time by Anubhav Nath- Director of Ojas Art Gallery and Abhishek Singh from 8th July 2018 at Ojas Art Gallery, Mehrauli, New Delhi.
The artist will paint live on a mural sized canvas at Ojas Art Gallery from 8th - 15th July 2018 touching upon the current issue that the environment is facing at the hands of mankind. The artwork Vrikshadootam- A message from the trees will entail a mural sized canvas with the central theme depicting the stories of the environment and the absolute need to protect, nurture and preserve the same. It will focus on the immediate need and the importance of man and nature to coexist peacefully and will be at display at the Ojas Art Gallery from 15th to 20th of July 2018.
Abhishek Singh's most recent live drawing was for the Frenec Hopp Museum of Asian Arts, Budapest, Hungary in June 2018. Having garnered widespread acclaim for his singular paintings, which are rich with concept and thought provoking story line, the artist with this exhibition furthers his magic of visual storytelling. His paintings are known to highlight the issues that plague the world we live in today. With the recent harm to the trees and the environment with mankind's ever increasing greed, we live in a world that I stop polluted to breathe in. The rivers are running dry and the earth bleeds with the toxins we render it with. It is this plight of nature that will find life in Abhishek's painting.
Abhishek’s passion comes through clearly as he speaks about his work, "There's something charming embedded in the intricate design of this universe which keeps corresponding with us, imbuing in us a sense of wonder, making us collect thoughts both abandoned and celebrated, making us tell stories. I would like to believe that my work is an attempt to know what I have always known but never really knewâ€.
Anubhav Nath, Director, Ojas Art gallery says, “I wanted Abhishek to create an artwork that talks about the importance of the environment and the necessity and urgency to preserve the same employing his unique storytelling style combined with mythology and ecological issues.â€
Abhishek Singh has been working on imagery of gods and goddesses for nearly two decades. His graphic novel, Krishna –A Journey Within, Deepak Chopra and Shekhar Kapur's Ramayana 3392 A.D, Kali and Shiva, have sold over half a million copies and have been translated in four languages. In 2014, Ojas Art’s Shiva in Varanasi curated by Anubhav Nath showcased his artworks in a public setting, on the ghats of the Ganges in Varanasi.
Singh’s artworks have been exhibited at Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA); and Asia Society Texas Center, Houston and Middlebury College Museum of Art, Vermont. His most recent live drawing was for the Frenec Hopp Museum of Asian Arts, Budapest, Hungary in May 2018.
